How To Clean Your Dishwasher
/Steps to Clean a Dishwasher
When you think of a dishwasher, you often think of an appliance that cleans dishes for you. Rarely do you think of your dishwasher needing to be cleaned itself. However, this is something that’s massively important to make sure your dishwasher lasts as it was intended. In our newest Appliance Educator blog and video, we will walk through special tips and tricks to make sure your dishwasher looks and smells as good as new.
In our newest video, we demonstrate how to efficiently clean a ZLINE 18” Stainless Steel Dishwasher, which can be found at one of their trusted retailers, Rustic Kitchen and Bath here.
1. Remove the Racks
The first step is simple, remove the racks from inside the dishwasher. They should not be too dirty as they are constantly being rinsed off in the dishwasher. The next step is to take a look at the drain and the filter, located at the bottom of the dishwasher. Check for any excess dirt or grime that has accumulated over time.
2. Remove and Clean the Filter
Next, you will want to remove the filter itself. The process of this will depend on your manufacturer, however it should be a fairly simple removal process with a basic screwdriver set. Once removed, you should let it soak in warm soapy water for about ten minutes to ensure that the filter is cleaned properly. Another tip is to take a toothbrush and rub on the filter while it is soaking so that all the dirt and grime is removed!
3. Ensure the Spray Nozzles are Clear
Moving on, the next area of focus should be the spray arms. The spray arms are the blades that spray the water throughout the dishwasher during a cycle. It is critical to ensure that they are not blocked with debris, so your dishwasher can continue to give you optimal cleaning results. The easiest and most effective way to do this is to take a pipe cleaner and pull it through the holes of the spray arm, and swipe it around to reach every crevice and corner.
4. Check the Tub
The final step is to ensure the interior of the tub is clean and ready to go. You will want to locate and clean any rubber seals that are inside the tub, to get rid of any excess food and debris. If this goes unchecked your dishwasher can start to smell. This is crucial in dishwasher cleaning.
Now you should have everything you need to know how to clean your dishwasher. Good luck and happy cleaning! If you are doing a full deep clean of your kitchen, be sure to check out our other blog on how to clean your oven.
